The three Tagroo maps

Tagroo is a floor is lava tag game, and each of its three maps uses the lava in a different way. One map makes the floor fall away under your feet, one floods it from the edges, and one sends lava puddles roaming around. All three are the same size: a grid of 15 by 10 tiles. If you haven't played yet, start with the Tagroo beginner's guide.

Skyline Scramble

Rooftops that give up under your feet. Every tile heats up while someone stands on it. Stay on one spot for under a second and it cracks; a moment later it drops into the lava. Dropped tiles come back after about five seconds, as long as nobody is standing over the hole.

  • The four corner tiles are missing from the start.
  • A tall building block sits in the middle. Nobody can jump over it, so it's the map's main thing to circle around.
  • Two rooftop fans sit near opposite corners. They are low, so you can jump them.
  • In the last 5 seconds (Rooftop Panic) tiles heat up and crack faster, and tiles in the outer two rings start cracking on their own.

Kitchen Chaos

The sauce is rising. Get to the middle. Hot sauce floods the kitchen counter from the outside edge inward, one ring of tiles at a time. A tile glows a warning about a second and a half before the sauce takes it. The three outer rings flood one after another during the chase, and the middle stays dry.

  • The first ring floods about three seconds into the chase, so don't start near the edge.
  • Obstacles: a mug and a bowl (round), a cutting board, and two tall boxes in opposite corners. An obstacle sinks when the tile under it floods.
  • In the last 5 seconds (Dinner Rush) random tiles in the dry middle start flooding too.

Kitchen Chaos gets smaller as the chase goes on. With a long timer the last part is a tight fight in the middle, where a runner has little room and the chaser has a much easier job.

The Chaos Factory

Molten puddles with opinions. Four lava blobs drift around the factory floor, bouncing off the walls and wandering a little as they go. Touching a blob counts as touching lava. Four tiles are holes from the start, and four crates stand near the corners.

  • The spinner: an arm sweeps around the middle of the map and shoves anyone it hits outward, which can send you toward a blob or a hole. Jump and it passes under you.
  • The crates are low, so you can jump them, but running into one at speed bounces you back.
  • Factory Overload (last 5 seconds): the blobs and the spinner speed up.

Runner tactics

  • Use your head start. The chaser can't move for the first moment of the chase. Spend it getting to open ground, away from walls and corners.
  • Circle something tall. The chaser is a little faster than you, about 6%, so a straight race is lost in the end. A tall block in the middle forces the chaser to follow your path instead of cutting across.
  • Jump over the chaser. A tag only counts when you're both at about the same height. A well-timed jump as the chaser lunges can make them pass right under you.
  • Make them dive. After a dive the chaser is slow for a moment. Sidestep a dive and you gain a few steps.
  • Lead the chaser over danger. If the chaser falls in, they come back far away from you about a second later. That's free time.
  • Watch the clock. Each second you survive counts. In the last 5 seconds the map gets harsher, so pick a safe spot before the panic starts.

Chaser tactics

  • Cut corners. Don't follow the runner's exact path around an obstacle. Go the other way round and meet them.
  • Save the dive. Dive only when the runner is close and can't jump out of the way. A missed dive slows you right when they're getting away.
  • Take risks near lava. A fall costs you about a second. A short jump over a gap that the runner had to go around is often worth it.
  • Push them toward the hazard. On Kitchen Chaos, chase from the middle so the runner has to run along the flooding edge. On Skyline Scramble, follow behind so they have to keep stepping onto fresh tiles.
  • Stay on the ground for tags. A tag needs you at about the same height as the runner, so jumping at a runner on the ground usually misses.

Tagroo maps questions

How many maps does Tagroo have?

Three: Skyline Scramble, Kitchen Chaos and The Chaos Factory. You can also choose Random, which picks a new map each round.

Can you jump over lava in Tagroo?

Yes. Lava only counts when you're on the ground, and a jump clears a single missing tile. On Skyline Scramble that saves you when a tile drops right in front of you.

Which Tagroo map is best for the runner?

Skyline Scramble's tall building in the middle gives runners something to circle. Kitchen Chaos gets tighter as it floods, which helps the chaser on long timers.

What does the spinner do in The Chaos Factory?

It sweeps around the middle and shoves anyone it hits outward. Jumping when it comes lets it pass under you.
